George Lowe, the legendary voice actor best known for his role as Space Ghost on Space Ghost Coast to Coast, passed away on Sunday, March 2, after a long illness. He was 67. His representative confirmed the news to Deadline, and tributes have poured in from fans and colleagues, celebrating his iconic career and warm personality.

Born in Dunedin, Florida, in 1958, Lowe began his career at 15 with a radio job at WWJB. His distinctive voice and comedic timing led him to voice acting, where he became a standout talent. In 1994, he landed his signature role as Space Ghost, the deadpan host of Space Ghost Coast to Coast, a surreal talk show parody that blended animation with live-action celebrity interviews. The show became a cult classic, running on Cartoon Network from 1994 to 1999 and later revived on Adult Swim from 2001 to 2004.
Lowe’s dry wit and unique delivery made Space Ghost an unforgettable character, and the show helped redefine adult animation. Beyond Space Ghost, Lowe voiced Cyrus Mooney on American Dad! and appeared in other Adult Swim hits like Robot Chicken and Aqua Teen Hunger Force.
His longtime friend, radio DJ “Marvelous Marvin” Boone, paid tribute on Facebook, calling Lowe a “warm-hearted genius” and the “funniest man on Earth.” Boone’s heartfelt words reflect the impact Lowe had on those who knew him, both as a talented artist and a kind friend.
George Lowe’s legacy lives on through his iconic roles and the laughter he brought to fans worldwide. He will be deeply missed. Rest in peace, George Lowe. Pweeloto.
